Title: Senior Ecologist
We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Senior Ecologist to join our dynamic HSEQ team. This is a hybrid working role, 37.5 hrs per week, with some weekends and nights expected.
In this role, you will act as a team leader, providing and overseeing the production of technically sound deliverables for ecological commissions such as in the preparation of surveys and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
This role offers you a great opportunity to influence Ecology across all rail transport infrastructure projects with Amey across the UK. Providing you with opportunities to support and guide rail accounts in ecological risk management and opportunities to progress with Ecological and Environmental institutions.
What You’ll Do:
- Ecological surveys/inspections, clerk of works duties across all our sites when necessary.
- Develop Ecological assurance and governance documentation for deliverables
- Updating governance documentation on the IMS system.
- Gathering of ecological case studies, developing lessons learned from across the rail business.
- Develop ecological processes for all our accounts to ensure ecological compliance.
- Providing ecological training by way of in person spotlight sessions, LearnUpon modules, webinars and TBT’s.
- Ecological assistance with work winning.
- Attend Client biodiversity meetings
- Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.

What You’ll Bring:
Qualifications:
- Degree in Ecology or environmental topic
- Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (MCIEEM) or equivalent
- Technical expertise in protected species license with a specialism for instance Bats or Great Crested Newts
- Developed experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in an Ecologist role or equivalent
Skills:
- Applies ecological management theory and principles to clearly understood situations, where concepts are matched to problems
- Takes ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables and is fully capable of working unsupervised. Can check deliverables to a reasonable standard and takes ownership for this
- Very good working knowledge of relevant software and similar analytical tools
- Demonstrates good commercial awareness
- Very good oral communicator who can present arguments and ideas well. Delivers training workshops or presents proposals orally to clients
- Has a very good understanding of risk assessment. Substantially experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects and ensures appropriate risk mitigation and transference have been applied
- Demonstrates a good understanding of interface management. Ensures own deliverables align with deliverables produced by other disciplines
